CO-CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES
The Malaysian Volunteer Department (RELA) is the only co-curricular activity carried out here. Here is a little history about the Malaysian Volunteer Department (RELA).
The history of the Malaysian Volunteer Department (RELA) is closely related to the Home Guard Team which was established to maintain local security when the emergency was declared in 1948 and was disbanded after the emergency was declared over on 31 July 1960.
In 1963 to 1965, the Volunteer Force was re-established under the name of the Special Control Force following the country's threat of confrontation with Indonesia to act as the eyes and ears of the government and assist security agencies. The Special Control Team was disbanded after the end of the confrontation.
After the incident in 1969, the late Tun Dr. Ismail Abdul Rahman who was then the Deputy Prime Minister and also the Minister of Home Affairs thought that it was important to create a voluntary team that functions as the eyes and ears of the government and the third line of defense in dealing with national security threats.
Therefore, on 11 January 1972 the government decided to establish RELA under Section 2 of the Emergency (Necessary Powers) Act 1964.
In 2005 to 2012, RELA was given special powers under the Emergency Act 1964 to carry out operations to crack down on Illegal Immigrants (PATI). The powers given to RELA have been implemented to the best of their ability to combat illegal immigration so that national security and the well-being of the people continue to be preserved.
On 22 June 2012, RELA was rebranded with the abolition of the Malaysian People's Volunteer Association and changed to the Malaysian Volunteer Force based on the Malaysian Volunteer Force Act 2012 (Act 752) which is based on the concept of 5K 1P which is Peace, Security, Wellbeing, Harmony, Unity and Unity.
Starting on 28 August 2013, RELA was upgraded to become a Federal Department and known as the Malaysian Volunteer Department (RELA).
